Renewing Your Nursing Assistant License

Renewing your CNA license can be hard to understand unless you are fully aware of requirements needed in the first place. You are required to renew your CNA license every two years unless otherwise stated. One of the first things you need to do before being eligible for renewing your license is to work in a nursing facility as a CNA. You can either renew your license by mail, or even online thanks to technology. You may still be eligible to renew it if you haven't worked also.

On the form you will be asked to fill out all of your personal details such as your name, phone number, license number and type, your SSN, and address for mailing your renewed license. You need to fill in all of your information and there is a portion that needs to be filled out by a health professional. You can ask an employer you have worked for or your current one.

Make sure you have signed the form on the bottom and have dated it. Make sure everything is filled out correctly and you will then need to submit the form to the Board of Nursing. There is a fee that you are also going to have to pay and can vary by state. It can be in the area of $60 and as high as $100 in some cases. You will be given an address to mail your completed form to as well as instructions on how to send payment.

You will have to allow a few weeks for processing, and in some cases, it will take 2-4 weeks from start to finish. You will be able to get on the internet and check the status of your application.

In some states you are going to be asked to retake the state test. This is especially true if you have no experience working in a healthcare setting in the past 2 years. You may find that some states are asking nursing assistants to re-enroll in a nursing aide program in order to renew. This may be a bit of a hassle, but it may be required to continue carrying this form of a license.

In the case you are going to need to retake the nursing assistant class in order to renew your CNA certification, you will find that there are sample tests that you can look at to get an idea of what is going to be on the exams.

The best thing to do when renewing your license is to find out what the requirements are for your state and make sure you meet them. If you do not, do not attempt to reapply for a renewal until all requirements are met. Renewing your license is something that cannot be avoided in order to work in the healthcare field with patients. One thing to avoid is letting your license expire. If it does, you will incur additional fees in order to renew and the longer it is expired or classified as being inactive, the more likely it is that you will need to be tested again.
